Lantern,
Stove and Iron Model Year Sequence Records
Web Note: The
following information was provided by the ICCC Historian, Mr. Herb
Ebendorf in his 1987 listing titled "The Coleman Lanterns in
Chronological Order." It is shown here with his permission and he would
like to add that the listings are under continuous review. Fluorescent
Battery lanterns have been omitted.
Other and Kerosene Lanterns Propane
& Butane Lanterns Irons Listed below are model designation for
lanterns made by Coleman between 1914 and 1986. Included are lanterns
made by Coleman for two of its early subsidiaries, Yale Light Co.,
Chicago, and the Sunshine Safety Light Col, Kansas City, Missouri.
Coleman also produced lanterns for several other companies, including
Sears, Roebuck and Co. Existing records do not detail these special
production runs for listing marked with an asterisk (*). Some kerosene
(paraffin) lanterns also may have been included in this group.-Herb W.
Ebendorf, Company Historian.

Cook Stoves & Ranges
Beginning in 1926 and continuing into 1927 and possibly as late as 1928,
“Coleman Cookers” were made with three and four
surface burners. The 3-burner
models were
designated as “Jobber” stoves and numbered 200-225. The
4-burner
"Jobber” stoves were numbered 600-625. None of
the 200-600 cook stoves were
illustrated in sales
catalogues.
In 1928, Coleman engineers made
important changes in the burners for the 1926,
1927 & 1928 “Coleman Cookers” and began
production of “Air-O-Gas” cook stoves,
ranges and
hot plates. The “Air-O-Gas” stoves were all in the 300 series
well into the
1930s.
It is estimated that the total
number of shipments of the Coleman cooking stoves,
ranges and hot plates between 1925 and 1929
(inclusive total) was well over 200,000
units.

Development of the Instant-Lite
burner found on lamps 117, 118, and 119 and on the No. 220
and 228 lanterns
represented a
significant and long standing
advance in lighting.
The first Instant-Lite
burners were designed to be installed at a slight angle to vertical air
tube
of the 1928 lamps
and lanterns.
This position was believed to make lighting easier for the
user but was soon
re-engineered to a
more conventional and less costly
position.
It has also been pointed
out that the Coleman “Z” burner (see “LZ” and “2LZ”)
on lamps and
lanterns directed to secondary markets such as Sears Roebuck,
Montgomery Ward,
Yale and Savage.
