ICCC 20th Year Anniversary Limited Edition Lantern

Announcement:  I would like to announce a limited edition 20th Anniversary Lantern that is an ‘ICCC member produced’ effort to help us mark this special anniversary with a special lantern.

Background: I worked with Tim Daniel at Coleman, brainstorming with many ideas to mark the ICCC 20th Anniversary. A special run for the ICCC would require a minimum of 5000 units, which the ICCC bank account could not support. Tim, however, could provide us with a current off-the-shelf product at a discount, and the ICCC could customize it for the membership.

The Lantern: Of the products available to me, the 639 single mantle, bulged globe, kerosene lantern was the clear (and brightest!) choice of the products available and has the best “classic” look. The customization will result in the resemblance of a traditional 50’s Christmas lantern with the ventilator porcelain updated to red, a very special etched globe, and a new special ICCC numbered sticker, to be produced once all orders are taken. This also might be an opportunity for us to make a mark on the lantern for ICCC Charter Members that purchase this lantern. All of these improvements are done directly by our own ICCC members. This is your membership working for you to bring you a special lantern, intended to be ready by the Lake George Convention.

Price: Prepaid. The targeted price for this lantern is $100 + shipping. We are striving to achieve this target. Limit: one per current single membership, two per current family membership.

What you can do to help: A current Coleman email coupon allows for a 33% discount, with free shipping that ends 12/19/11. This represents about a $15 savings per unit over my best price and will go a long way to lock in our $100 unit price target. Also, ICCC Secretary Peter Ecklund learned this item will have a 5% increase in 2012. Since the ICCC does not have the funds to make this purchase, Peter and I have purchased 200 units ($6400 each) to lock in this lower cost. This will result in lowering the total overall cost to offer this special edition lantern to members. We expect more units will have to be ordered to meet all demand, but that will occur once the ordering deadline has passed (to be announced soon in a future mailing).

Action Requested: Peter and I have taken a personal financial step to make this as affordable as possible, and are asking those members that intend on purchasing the 20th Anniversary Lantern (that are able to make payment at this time of the year and still retain your Holiday cheer!) to send $100 USD (shipping 2BD)payment to the ICCC PayPal account at: icccsecretary@comcast.net and email both Peter Ecklund and Brent Zier at icccsecretary@comcast.net and icccpresident@comcast.net for record keeping. If you know how to send the funds using the PayPal Personal tab, instead of the Purchase tab, that will save the Club money. Checks or money orders can be sent to:

Many hours have gone into this project and would not be possible without the contribution of fellow ICCC members that are involved in this process to create a very special lantern for you, the ICCC member. If the response exceeds the 200 units we have purchased, prior to the end of the coupon expiration this weekend (Monday 12/19/2011), we will order more lanterns!

Sincerely,

Brent Zier                                                    Peter Ecklund

20th Anniversary Lantern Case         Brent Zier

For those ICCC members who have ordered the 20th Anniversary Lantern by the March 31, 2012 deadline, you can now order an ICCC labeled case to protect your 639C kerosene 20th Anniversary Lantern and box.

Background: Coleman Collectors Forum (or CCF - a bulletin board found on OldColemanParts.com) member Will Foster introduced his company, www.theZungalow.com, and offered a $39.99 galvanized metal storage box for “medium” sized lanterns. It is a high quality case made in the USA. Please visit his website for all the details.

Soon afterwards, CCF members asked Will for a larger case, to fit the taller and wider lanterns (like a 228E) as well as the ICCC 20th Anniversary Lantern. Will and I connected and compared measurements of a proposed ‘larger’ lantern box and found it would fit the ICCC lantern, in its original box, with some additional foam padding. Will worked hard with me to keep the cost down. I requested a $49.99 target (just $10 more than the small version currently in production) and he was able to honor that request with a reasonable number of units ordered (l00, which is less than ½ of our current Lantern orders).

The $49.99 is a special price offered by Will to ICCC members for the 20th Anniversary Lantern. There is alot more material in the larger case. FYI - when this larger style of case is ready to be offered on his website for general public purchase, it probably will be more expensive.

I will add the same 20th Anniversary Lantern label to the ICCC lantern case. It will be serialized and match the number on your lantern! I am working with Fred Kuntz to see if the label for the case can be sized larger for better presentation on the case.
